Postponed Joins NZ Westbury As Harvey Buys 50%
Baramul Stud, Vinery Stud & Magic Millions principal Gerry Harvey has bought a 50% interest in US Gr2-winning 16-year-old stallion Postponed (Summer Squall-Bridal Tea, by Gulch) to join existing Kiwi partners David & Masey Benjamin of Fayette Park & Gary Hackett. As a result Postponed (who stood last season at New Zealand's Stoney Bridge) has joined the 2009 roster at Karaka-based Westbury Stud (where Harvey is also a part-owner) at NZ$14,500+GST. Westbury manager Russell Warwick enthused: "Postponed is heading into some exciting times with his biggest books about to hit the track. He's got 94 rising 2YOs to step out, with 79 yearlings coming through & he covered 96 mares in 2008." David Benjamin added: "We were very keen to see Postponed go to Westbury Stud to continue his career with a certain future at a top-class establishment." Postponed made a flying start to his stud career with 5 stakes-winners from his 1st-crop, includng: Pasta Post (NZ Gr1 Easter Handicap, Gr2 City Of Auckland Cup & Gr3 Manawatu Classic), Dorabella (NZ Gr1 1000 Guineas, Gr1 Captain Cook Stakes, Gr3 Stoney Bridge Stakes & Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes), Naturo (NZ Gr2 Robin, Duke Of Bedford Matamata Breeders' Stakes & Gr3 Highview Stakes) & Farson (Gr1 Macau Derby, Gr1 Macau Gold Cup & Gr3 Macau Derby Trial). Warwick noted: "Postponed has the impressive figures of 70% winners-to-runners from his 1st-crop & an outstanding 10.2% stakeswinners-to-runners." Postponed (whose 2009 book will be limited to 125 mares) joins Librettist, Captain Rio, Faltaat & Cecconi on the Westbury roster. (May 28)
