KELTRICE
Nominated for the Magic Millions race series
KELTRICE, a son of one of
the first International shuttlers in French sire KENMARE,
won the Flemington Lightning S. [G1]
amongst 5 wins, and was placed at Group level on a further 9 occasions (incl. 2d
Caulfield Blue Diamond S. [G1]).
At stud, Victorian-based KELTRICE has
proven an incredibly consistent sire, maintaining a runners-winners ratio above
65% (currently 67.4%) a figure that rivals the most elite sires including
ENCOSTA DE LAGO (currently 66.3%). Hong Kong
sprinter DEL ESTE (HKJC Chairman's Sprint
Prize, [HK-1] is amongst KELTRICE’s
9 Stakes winners, and Australian Derby [G1]
2nd placegetter Zarek just one of his 13
progeny to be Stakes placed.
RYOLA ROSE, the dam of this colt, is half
sister to multiple city winning and twice Group placed Confederate Kid
(3d Carlyon S. [G2]; 2d Standish S. [G3]),
as well as SP Kid Calamity (2d Derby Trial
[L]; 4th Vic Derby [G1]),
a winner to 2050m. At stud, RYOLA ROSE has produced 5 winners incl. 4 multiple
winners, the most noted being SP Kelthorpe,
the stoic galloper who has notched 10 wins and 21 placings to date.
Second dam, unraced EVENING SCENT, has thrown 8 winners at stud incl.
Confederate Kid and Kid Calamity
(above), as well as winner of 12 races, Picasso. Third dam MISS CENTUM is a full
sister to Sydney Cup [G1] winner
DOUBLE CENTURY, an unlucky second on protest to
DULCIFY in the Australian Derby, and she
boasts a perfect record at stud (9 winners from 9 to race).
“He is a strong, neat type who is well proportioned. Muscle in all the right
places and may get up to a mile in time," (R. Smerdon).
The gelding will be transferred to the Caulfield stable at the beginning of
March and is approximately a fortnight off a jumpout. If all goes to plan he
could be at the races in the latter part of March.
