2YO Colt by enduring Sire
MOSSMAN

A son of the successful
Southern Hemisphere sire SUCCESS EXPRESS, MOSSMAN was a G1 winner
as a juvenile (QTC Castlemaine Classic [G1] (1600 m.)) who trained on to
have a successful 3YO season, winning the AAMI Vase [G2] over 2040m.
MOSSMAN finished 4th in the Vic Derby [G1] in his Classic year, and
was placed a further 4 times at Group level (twice in G1’s) before
retiring to stud in 2001. Retiring to stud in 2001, MOSSMAN covered small books
of mares in his first few seasons. Following their early success, (G2
winners OUR SWEET MOSS and SEGMENTS are from his first crop),
MOSSMAN has maintained a strike rate above 60% and covered his largest book
of mares (164) in 2006 (This 2YO colt is from that crop).
MOSSMAN recently celebrated his first Stakes Winner for the
season when top-price colt Love Conquers All won the Listed
Tatts Brian Crowley Stakes at only his third start.
MOSSMAN's 3 x G2 winners to date include OUR
SWEET MOSS (Silver Shadow S.[G2]), G1 placed (2d Oakleigh
Plate) SEGMENTS (Schillaci S [G2] 1100m), as well as Golden
Slipper runner-up PURE ENERGY (Reisling S. [G2]). Other succesful
progeny include NSW-based Prince Braeman (7 wins), as well as Qld galloper
Encierro (7 wins). His current band of promising 2YO’s include Neeson, Umanugget
and Mossanay, all early 2YO winners.
This is the first foal for lightly raced dam FAME PRINCESS. Second dam is
the city winning SP Marscay mare, Salimar. At stud, she has
produced 4 winners from 5 to race and is a full sister to Lilande, dam of
DEFIER, the multiple G1 winner and runner-up to NORTHERLY in
the 2002 Cox Plate [G1] and FIELDS OF OMAGH the following year.
Salimar is also a ¾ sister to 12 time Group winning (5 x G1’s)
Champion racemare TRISCAY.
With black type littered throughout the first 4 generations of this colt’s
pedigree, combined with the consistently impressive $115K average at this year’s
Easter sale, this colt represents value for money.
The colt has already completed a 6 week preparation with Julien Welsh and is
expected back in the late November.
“Nice strong colt who is shaping up to be a sprinter/miler type,”
Heath Conners
