It was with great disappointment that Clanbrooke broke the news to Members this
week - Danrossa bowed a tendon in trackwork and was immediately retired. Whilst
we were lucky to race such a talented filly, her best was surely ahead of her.
01.05.2008
It has been somewhat of a mixed bag for Danrossa and owners over the last few
months. Following a promising 2nd at Oakbank where she was beaten a nose, Mark
revised his expectations and decided that, following a run at Cheltenham,
Danrossa would travel to Melbourne for a crack at a metropolitan race. However,
running into a pretty tough field at Sandown, Danrossa was disappointing and, on
return to Adelaide, was turned out for spell. Nonetheless, Danrossa, a leased
horse, is a promising filly who will no doubt be very handy on her home tracks
in Adelaide.
01.02.2008
After another disappointing run at Murray Bridge in mid November, things started
to turn around for Danrossa. Jumping from 1400m to 2050m in only 11 days,
Danrossa notched her first placing, a second at Strathalbyn, proving that she
certainly needed more ground. Dropping back to 1800m at her next start at Clare,
Danrossa won her Maiden convincingly (see above) by 3L and started Mark thinking
about some better races for her next time in. Another third, this time in a
better company at Cheltenham, followed by a lacklustre performance at Cheltenham
in her last start for this prep., Danrossa is now resting and expected back in
Mark's stables for her second preparation shortly.
01.11.2007
Running a terrible first trial, Danrossa improved to run 5th at her second
trial, albeit at an unsuitable 1000m. After her first start at Gawler where she
ran down the field, it was apparent to both the jockey and Mark that Danrossa
would only benefit from wider tracks and more ground. Mark intends pushing her
up to 200m as quickly as possible although it appears that she is still an
immature filly who may take a little bit of time to become race savvy.
01.08.2007
Returning to Marks' stable in the last few days of July, Danrossa returned in
time for the Open Morning, attended by many Members, some of whom had travelled
from Melbourne to inspect the filly. All were impressed with her physique and
Mark intends putting her back into work immediately.
01.07.2007
A disappointing run second up at Murray Bridge early in the month pre-empted a
spell for Danrossa. Following the race, the jockey reported that she had raced
like a tired horse and, as such, she was turned out to the paddock, expected to
return in late July.
01.06.2007
A solid trial at Morphetville in May preceded Danrossa's first start at
Morphetville where Danrossa gave a very good account of herself, finishing 6th,
only 2L behind the winner. She may be nearing the end of her tether but we will
probably press on for one more run before turning her out for a well-earned
rest.
01.05.2007
Named `Danrossa' in April (not much explanation required!), Mark is thrilled
with her progress to date and reports that she is only a couple of weeks from a
trial.
01.04.2007
The filly returned to Mark's stable in late March. Impressed with the way she
has spelled, Mark will push ahead with her. We are hoping that she will go
through to the races this preparation.
01.03.2007
The Partnership closed in February, the filly spent the month in the paddock
spelling. She is due to return to Marks' stable at some stage in March.
