01.05.2008
Since her 6th placing at Albury in her comeback run in April, Gala Evening has
been in the best form of her career. Winning a $25K race at Wagga against a
classy field, Gala Evening went on to back it up with a win at Wodonga, only to
be pipped on the line going for a hat trick at Swan Hill at her next start.
Earning prizemoney at 21 of her 32 starts to date, Gala Evening just keeps
getting better and is certainly the best Leased horse we have ever raced.
01.02.2008
Another consistent preparation for our mare, yet one without glory. A second at
Dederang against a lacklustre field was, perhaps, the highlight for Gala in
recent times. However, Brian thought her work good enough to make the trip to
Moonee Valley in late January for a shot at a city win. Unfortunately she had
gone over the top by then and she has gone to the paddock. No doubt, however,
she will come back and race with the same honesty she has displayed since her
debut for Clanbrooke as a 2YO.
01.11.2007
The ever consistent mare, it is hard to believe that GE is still only a 4YO!
Five starts this preparation to date for one win and two seconds, it was her
third run that gave cause for concern, thoroughly beaten by almost six lengths,
Brian feared that Gala Evening simply didn't want to win any more. But her
subsequent two runs, a win on her home track and a second at Echuca on Cup Day
reassured both Brian and Members that the filly certainly has a lot of racing
left in her.
01.08.2007
Returning to Brian's stable in mid-July, all reports are that she has spelled
extremely well and towards the end of the July is only about a month from a
trial.
01.07.2007
Gala Evening spent the month of June spelling.
01.06.2007
Her trackwork trailing off in early May, after being up for 9 months, Brian
elected to send her to the paddock for a well earned rest. We expect her back in
the stable at some point in early July.
01.05.2007
We've said it before but goodness, what a consistent filly Gala Evening really
is. Second by 0.2L at Tatura, following up with a second by 0.3L at Albury, Gala
Evening took her statistics to 17 starts for 3-6-2 including 2 fourths. In fact,
she has only finished further back than 6th on one occasion - Moonee Valley on a
Friday night. We learnt that night that GE is simply a solid, consistent,
country racehorse. She has now gone to the paddock for a very well earned rest
after a 6 month prep.
01.04.2007
Although finishing second and third respectively at her two starts at both
Towong and Albury during the Cup Carnival, the heat really started to affect
Gala Evening as she took longer to recover between starts. It may be that her
preparation is nearing the end, but Brian will continue to monitor and give her
all the time she requires between races.
01.03.2007
Gala Evening had two runs in February, both at Albury and both with Nick Soquet
in the saddle. The first was a terrific win to Gala Evening, taking her tally to
three wins. At her second start for the month, Gala Evening was forced to work
outside the leader and this just told at the end of the race.
01.02.2007
Only the one run at Echuca for Gala Evening in January. Given it was a 42 degree
day and the filly pulled quite distressed from the run it was a most impressive
effort to finish fourth. She will more than likely have a few weeks off racing
before resuming her campaign in early February.
01.01.2007
Despite a disappointing 10th at Moonee Valley early in the month, it did show
that Gala Evening is not a city class horse at this stage. However her next two
starts yielded a win and a second, proving that her win at Wodonga was not a
fluke. She is turning into a very handy country horse who is sure to provide
many more thrills for owners.
01.12.2006
Great first up win for Gala Evening on Wodonga Cup Day in front of a number of
Members. Brian thinks she can go on with it this preparation and may even take
her to Melbourne for a shot at a city win.
01.11.2006
Brian led Gala Evening through her paces throughout October and she is now
working in even time. She will raced first up in a 3YO Maiden SV on Wodonga Cup
Day (November 26) first up.
01.10.2006
Gala Evening spent the month of September in the paddock, returning in the final
days on the month. We hope she will get a run in before a start on Wodonga Cup
Day where Clanbrooke hosts its annual marquee.
01.09.2006
Gala Evening spent the month of August in the paddock. We expect a return to the
stables in September.
01.08.2006
A couple of runs for Gala Evening in July. Top weight at Benalla, a poor ride
saw her finish just out of the money with a margin of only 2.7 lengths. Her
second start at Echuca was equally disappointing for Members, Gala Evening
finishing fifth. Afterwards, she was clearly tired and ready for a spell. She
has gone to the paddock for a six week break.
01.07.2006
Gala Evening progressed through her work so quickly at the beginning of the
month that Brian decided she needed a run before the Jack Maher Classic on June
30. Racing at Benalla 24/6, although not disgraced, it was a little
disappointing that she did not come home as well as expected. It is also her
only unplaced start to date. However the filly backed it up with a terrific run
in the Jack Maher Classic, beaten by Robert Smerden's impressive `Barwon
Express' for second. Members must surely feel that it is about time she breaks
through the Maiden Class and Brian is adamant she will do this very soon.
01.06.2006
Gala Evening returned to Brian's stables in mid-May looking refreshed and
terrific. Brian has set her for the Jack Maher Classic on June 30 as he thinks
she is a filly with a lot of ability.
01.05.2006
Gala Evening spent the month of April resting in the paddock at Wodonga and
Members received their first dividend cheques for her couple of placings.
However, we are confident that dividend cheques are likely to increase in value
when Gala Evening hits the track for her second preparation.
01.04.2006
Gala Evening commenced her racing career in March. Brian did not give her much
chance prior to her first run at Tatura and, indeed, Clanbrooke did not rate her
a betting proposition. However, Gala Evening finished a promising third.
Her second start at Echuca a week later was a terrific run, adding a second to
her career statistics. Looking like she was ready for a win, Gala Evening
unfortunately went shinsore and is now spelling. Members should be confident,
however, that she will return an even better racehorse.
01.03.2006
Gala Evening has progressed nicely throughout February, culminating in a trial
at Wangaratta in which she finished second. Brian was extremely pleased with the
result and is looking at nominating her for her first start in the first few
days of March. Owners will then glean some idea of Gala Evening's real ability.
01.02.2006
Like all young horses, Gala Evening is taking just a little bit of time to get
to the track. However she looks well and should make her debut towards end of
Feb.
01.01.2006
Brian has been extremely pleased with Gala Evening's progress throughout
December. Although she is still some time away from racing, if she continues to
learn and progress at the rapid rate with which she has been working, we may
even squeeze an initial trial in at the end of January.
01.12.2005
Gala Evening came back into the stables in late November, a little later than
expected. Interesting to note that her full sister, Hearts of Gold, has had two
thirds at Wodonga and a win at Benalla in the month of November.
01.11.2005
As there was simply no room at the inn throughout the latter stages of October,
Gala Evening is due to return to Brian's stable in the days following the
Melbourne Cup.
01.10.2005
The filly is due to return to Brian's stable in mid-October.
01.09.2005
This filly was leased from Brian Cox in mid-2005 and at the time of writing has
not been fully Syndicated but is well on the way.
She is by the very good value Sire in MADE OF GOLD who continually gets winners
from ordinary books of mares. Brian has trained other members of this family and
he has high hopes for her.
The filly is currently spelling but we hope that on her return she will go
through to the races.
