Taking a slowly, slowly approach, Brian Jenkins continues to increase Mondena
Magic' fitness slowly with a lot of swimming included in his regime. Almost at
trial stage, it has been a long wait for Members who will be relieved to see him
get through his first start which we hope to be at Swan Hill over the Carnival
there in early June.
01.02.2008
Fully recuperated now, Mondena has commenced hydro work in an attempt to
strengthen his legs without placing them under any strain. No problems to date
and it's full steam ahead.
01.11.2007
The trial and tribulations of racing. Winning his first trial on home track
Wodonga in September by 2 lengths, Mondena Magic was subsequently found to have
a bone chip on his knee, requiring surgery. Electing to proceed with the
operation, Mondena is now recovering well at Bethanga Park. He requires six
months in the paddock at which time Brian will bring him back into work and
assess his knees.
01.08.2008
Progressing well throughout July, Mondena is expected to trial on August 20 and,
with any luck, proceed to the races.
01.07.2007
Mondena Magic returned to Brian's stables late in the month. Brian was very
pleased with how the gelding had spelled, reporting that he had come back bigger
and stronger and switched on to the demands of stable life.
01.06.2007
Inspected by Dean in the middle of the month, he and Brendan decided that
Mondena would commence pre-training following the long weekend.
01.05.2007
Mondena Magic spelled throughout April and Dean is set to inspect on May 15.
01.04.2007
Members decided on a name for the colt in March - Mondena Magic (Testa Rossa was
one of Ferrari's first cars and Mondena was the testing track in Italy - makes
perfect sense!). In the dying stages of the month it was clear that the colt was still
growing and beginning to feel his legs. A decision was also made at that time to
geld him predominantly to prevent him from becoming too big and not because there
were any issues with his temperament.
01.03.2007
The Testa Rossa-Sedbury colt settled in well to stable life at Brian's stable in
February. Brian did not ask much of him but he started to build up his fitness
levels both swimming and walking.
